The purpose of the Kent County Board of Assessment is to insure that the ownership and description of any particular piece of real estate in the County can be readily ascertained, to maintain property valuations and assessments and to address questions related to property and property values.
The Board consists of three (3) members appointed by the government of Kent County. Members serve four year terms, beginning the second Tuesday in January following the election of the Governor. Members must be qualified voters of Kent County, no two of whom reside in the same senatorial district. All members are chosen from the two principal political parties and not more than two can be from the same party. Administrative support and staff supervision is provided by the Secretary to the Board of Assessment, whom is the Kent County Finance Director.
The three-member Kent County Board of Assessment will be replaced by a seven-member Levy Court appointed Board of Assessment Appeals on January 8, 2013 as provided under HB169. Assessment staff will be absorbed into the Finance Department.
