PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
Mission Statement
Our mission is to plan, promote and develop recreational facilities and activities consistent with the needs of all Kent County residents for now and the future.
Goals
-
To promote the health, welfare and safety of all recreationalparticipants.
- To monitor recreational facilities and programs.
- To study and identify needed recreational facilities and services.
- To support the Parks and Recreation Department in serving all Kent Countians.
- To fulfill responsibilities delegated by Levy Court under Article III of the Parks & Recreation Commission Bylaws.
- To protect and conserve natural resources.
- To promote an awareness of public recreational facilities in Kent County.
- To incorporate technological resources into the County recreational planning and delivery system.
- To promote and develop Greenways as recreational resources.
- To function as a recreational advocate on behalf of the population of Kent County.
- To work in conjunction with other agencies to enhance recreational resources.
- To expand recreational and leisure activities.
- To insure compliance with provisions for open space, preservation and management.
- To identify and recommend funding sources that support parks and recreation opportunities.
The Commission consists of seven (7) members, one from each of Kent County's Levy Court Districts. Members are appointed for terms not to exceed four (4) years and must reside within the Levy Court District from which they are appointed for their full term. Support is provided by the Director of Kent County Parks and Recreation. The Park and Recreation Commission meets every 2nd Thursday of each month.
