Kent County Department of Public Safety

Chief Colin Faulkner, Director

Welcome

Welcome to the Kent County Emergency Communications Division located at 911 Public Safety Blvd., Dover DE 19901.

Mission Statement

The Kent County Department of Public Safety Emergency Communication Division, also known as Kent Center is the true first responder to all emergencies. Our mission is to act as a vital and critical link between our public safety agencies and the citizens they protect and serve. We strive to ensure the preservation of life and property by treating all who use our services with professionalism, courtesy, and compassion and by relaying accurate information in a timely and efficient manner.

Even though the 911 Center has multiple functions, there are two primary job functions within the Communications Center.

  1. Receiving incoming calls.  When a telephone call is received by the center either via 911 or a non emergency line, the Dispatcher collects the information from the caller.  The information is then prioritized for dispatching.
  2. Dispatching the call.  The dispatcher then dispatches the call to the appropriate agency or agencies.

Objectives

  • To answer 9-1-1 phone lines and administrative lines promptly and courteously
  • To obtain the necessary information to dispatch the proper response quickly
  • To understand what the caller needs and ensure that response is given
  • To obtain all information possible, once the response is on the way
  • To ensure the firefighters and medical service personnel are safe in their response
  • To dispatch the proper response quickly and efficiently so as to reduce the chance of property loss, injury or further injury to persons involved

The 911 Commitment

The Emergency Communications Division and every employee are committed to delivering the best service possible and we value your input.  If you have a suggestion, want to know how the center operates, want to schedule a tour of the center, feel free to contact us.  The center is equipped with the latest technology in order to maintain Kent County’s commitment to quality service.

Information

The Kent County Emergency Communications Division is fully staffed on each shift with properly trained and equipped Emergency Medical/Fire Dispatchers to handle any 911 emergency requiring a medical/fire response.  The staff will be using professional protocols and questioning to determine the medical/fire need and the proper response for the call.  The dispatching of Fire/EMS services will often occur simultaneously with the questioning.  The dispatcher may give preliminary instructions to help stabilize the situation while the emergency services are on the way.
