Kent County to hold Grand Opening for St. Jones Greenway Trail

(DOVER) - The Kent County Levy Court will celebrate a major recreational initiative with a ribbon cutting ceremony of the St. Jones River Greenway pedestrain and bike path on Tuesday, November 25 at 4:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the entrance trailhead located on Public Safety Boulevard between the DART facility and the DelDOT campus.

The St. Jones River Greenway is a planned 14-mile long river-side pathway linking the Greater Dover, Central Kent County area to the Delaware Bay. The Greenway will connect isolated residential communities, areas of new and planned development, the City of Dover, and recreation areas along the St. Jones River.

Kent County residents will have access to a pathway designed for pedestrians and bicyclists; providing a choice of a non-vehicular means of commuting to work, accessing services and visiting family and friends. The greenway will also offer recreational, natural resource, cultural, and educational experiences including: the Jonathan Dickinson Mansion, Kingston-upon-Hull, the St. Jones National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Lebanon Landing Recreation Area.

The complete Phase I project establishes 1.5 miles of the 3-mile long Isaac Segment and is another step towards realizing the vision of the St. Jones River Greenway Commission. The Isaac Segment is a cooperative effort of the Levy Court, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and the Delaware State Housing Authority.
