DOVER, DE - The March 1, 2014, deadline for individuals seeking to renew or obtain a new dog licenses in Kent County Delaware is fast approaching.

The County announced today that those in need of dog licenses can do so by visiting the Kent County Administration Complex Room 243, located on 555 Bay Road, Dover Delaware, 19901, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Applicants wishing to process their licenses by mail must include a copy of the dog’s current rabies certificate, proof of being spayed or neutered, along with a check or money order to the above address. The licenses will be processed and returned within 2-3 business days. Renewals submitted via mail must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2014, in order to avoid the late fee.

In accordance with Delaware law, all dogs, 6 months of age or older on or before March 1 of the year in which an application is made, must be licensed within the county in which they reside. Licenses are valid for one year and must be obtained by March 1.

All applicants for dog licenses must show proof of current rabies vaccination. The rabies vaccinations must be valid at the time the application is applied for, and the vaccination expiration date must occur after March 1 of the year through which the license will be valid.

The license fee for spayed/neutered dogs is: 1 year for $8.00 or 3 years for $20.00. A Non-spayed/non-neutered dog is: 1 year for $12.00 or 3 years for $30.00.

Seeing eye, lead or guide dogs or dogs that have previously served in a branch of the United States armed forces must be licensed, but are exempt from the licensing fee.
