Youth in Governement Day 2013:

7/22/2013
Dover – Kent County Levy Court, located at 555 Bay Road, Dover, will host Youth in Government Day on Thursday, April 11, 2013, beginning at 8:00AM – 2:30PM. This day brings high school juniors from across Kent and Sussex County to learn about the services County Government offers and how it operates. This year, students will tour the Kent County Administration Complex, visit the Safety EMS/911 Center and participate in a mock Levy Court Business Meeting. Information to be debated during the mock business meeting will cover the current employee dress code, a proposed re-zoning application, and the present social media policy. Each year in April, the National Association of Counties (NACo), encourages counties from across the Nation, to ban together and raise public awareness to generate understanding about the roles and responsibilities of county government. Youth in Government is an annual event, which is coordinated by Boys State and Girls State of Delaware, held in collaboration with Kent County. Since 1991, NACo has sought to promote county programs and services, through the creation of a new National campaign annually, designed to spark interest and engage the community. This year’s theme, Smart Justice, seeks to draw attention to the importance of Counties conducting business in a manner that is cost efficient, transparent to constituents and user friendly. The day will conclude with a mock marriage ceremony presided over by Clerk of the Peace Loretta Wootten, with students portraying the bride and groom. Wedding cake will be served. Youth in Government is an annual event, which is coordinated by Boys State and Girls State of Delaware, held in collaboration with Kent County Levy Court. ###END### The Levy Court is the highest executive power that exists in Kent County, Delaware.
