Incident Command Vehicle

In 2003 the Kent County Emergency Communications Division was awarded a federal grant to purchase a custom state-of-the-art Incident Command Vehicle. This vehicle is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose incident command vehicle equipped to handle phone/radio communications and provide assistance on major incidents throughout the County. This unit can also act as a back-up dispatch center if for some reason our center is unable to operate functionally. The vehicle is divided into three parts: public relations/incident command area, backup communications area, and galley/lavatory area. The front portion is the backup communications center which consists of two dispatch radio zetron consoles for alerting capabilities, four computers for Computer Aided Dispatch operations and six 800 MHZ radios for communications with responding units. The second section is the galley and lavatory area including a microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator and lavatory area. The back section is the operation center. This room is set up with a table, phones, radios, 40 inch plasma screen for monitoring events. The Chief Officer of an incident can discuss strategy and tactics for an event occurring. Just some of the other equipment also included on the vehicle: (24) 800 MHz Portable Radios, (9) 800 MHz Mobile Radios, Sytech Radio Interoperability System, (7) Laptop Computers, (15) Cellular/Landline Phone Connections, 25 ft. telescoping video mast, helicopter video downlinking system, Light Tower and a Weather System.
